ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Strategy Or Kinship? Rinku Singh Became A Scapegoat? The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is out! Rohit Sharma will lead the team with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. Big names like KL Rahul missed out, but there was a surprise exclusion that got everyone talking – Rinku Singh.

This young gun, who smashed runs in the IPL 2024, wasn’t picked for the main squad and only found a spot amongst the reserves. This decision didn’t go down well with former Indian cricketer Krishnammachari Srikkanth.

Srikkanth Fuming!

Srikkanth slammed the selection committee, calling the T20 World Cup squad “absolute nonsense.” He questioned why Rinku, a player everyone’s talking about, was left out.

“He’s been performing brilliantly whenever given a chance,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel. “How can you drop Rinku Singh? You could’ve dropped someone else. It doesn’t matter who, but in my opinion, Rinku deserved to be there, even if it meant leaving out Yashasvi.”

Rinku’s Match-Winning Knocks in South Africa

Srikkanth went on to highlight Rinku’s match-winning knocks in South Africa. He specifically mentioned the game against Afghanistan where Rohit Sharma scored a century. “Remember that match? India was 22 for 4, and then they put up 212. Rinku played a crucial knock there. He’s always delivered for India whenever he’s gotten a chance. This selection is just rubbish!”

Was Rinku Singh Really Sacrificed?

Srikkanth has a point. Rinku scored 501 runs in 29 IPL 2024 matches with an average of 32.67 and a strike rate of 149.25, including 4 half-centuries.

But the team already has four established spinners – Yuzvेंद्र Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.

So, did Rinku miss out because there wasn’t space for another spinner?
