1. Stop Clock Makes its Debut:
For the first time ever, the T20 World Cup will see the use of a stop clock. This aims to ensure overs are completed on time and keeps the match flowing smoothly. If a team fails to bowl their overs within the allotted time, they’ll face penalties.
2. Minimum Overs in Knockouts:
While the group stage and Super 8 will require a minimum of 10 overs per side, the knockout stage gets a bump up! Each team will now have to bat for at least 15 overs in the knockouts. This ensures a more complete contest and avoids one-sided finishes.
3. Fielding Restrictions Tighten:
Get ready for some tighter fielding! Under this new rule, fielders won’t be allowed to roam freely during the bowler’s run-up. This will give batsmen a bit of breathing room and encourage them to go for big shots.
4. No More ‘Free Fours’:
Remember those lucky boundaries off a fielder’s body? Those are a thing of the past! If the ball deflects off a fielder and goes over the rope, it will now be called a ‘dead ball’ with no runs awarded.
5. Introducing the ‘Super Sub’:
Teams can now bring in an extra player as a ‘substitute’ during the match! This player can replace anyone – a bowler, batsman, or even the wicketkeeper. This adds a whole new strategic layer to the game.
