Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Bengal beat Tamil Nadu by 43 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. In this match, Bengal captain Abhimanyu won the toss and decided to bat. Batting first, Bengal team scored 164 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Tamil Nadu team could score only 121 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Shahbaz Ahmed was the hero for Bengal in this match.

India’s recent debutant Shahbaz Ahmed’s all-rounder play helped Bengal register an impressive 43-run win over Tamil Nadu in their Group E match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy on Sunday. Shahbaz Ahmed, playing for Bengal, played an aggressive innings of 42 runs in 27 balls and contributed significantly in taking the team’s score to 164 runs. He also did wonders in his bowling, taking three wickets for just 13 runs in four overs, due to which Tamil Nadu’s team could score 121 runs for nine wickets.

Apart from Shahbaz, Abhimanyu Easwaran (38), Sudip Gharami (27) and Ritwik Chaudhary (32) also contributed well with the bat for Bengal. Washington Sundar took two wickets for Tamil Nadu, while Sai Kishore, T Natarajan, and Varun Chakravarthy took one wicket each. Chasing the target, Sai Sudarshan scored 64 runs in 48 balls but he did not get the support of any other batsman from the other end. Shahbaz took important wickets of Baba Aparajit (16) besides Sanjay Yadav (0) and Washington Sundar (4) after taking a brilliant catch of opener N Jagadeesan off Akash Deep.

In the other match of the group, Odisha registered a one-wicket win over Chandigarh in a thrilling match that lasted till the last ball. Rakesh Patnaik played an aggressive innings of 61 not out in 24 balls for the team. Chandigarh scored 179 for six when invited to bat first. For the team, Bhagmendra Lather scored 59 runs in 41 balls with seven sixes while Raj Bawa scored 40 runs in 17 balls. In reply, Odisha lost two wickets for five runs. But Shantanu Mishra (39) and Subryanshu Senapati (47) finished the innings with useful contributions. And then Patnaik gave the team victory with a daring batting.
