Unmukt Chand becomes first Indian cricketer to play in BBL match

Melbourne, Jan 18 (PTI) Former Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand on Tuesday became the first Indian cricketer to feature in Australia’s Big Bash T20 League (BBL) with his Melbourne Renegades debut.
The 28-year-old right-handed batsman made his BBL debut against Hobart Hurricanes.

Renegades tweeted with a picture of him in the team jersey, “Naya color suits you Unmukt Chand.”

India won the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Australia in 2012 under the captaincy of Unmukt Chand. He retired from all forms of Indian cricket in August last year, making him eligible to play the league overseas.

He also led the India A team after the success of the Under-19 World Cup, but could never be a part of the senior team.
