Sri Lanka announced an 18-man squad for the Test series against Pakistan, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa pulled it out of Sri Lanka, and Nishan Madushka made his side.

He was also set to face a fast pace and left-arm spin on the third day at the historic Colts Cricket Club ground in Colombo.

Sri Lanka is yet to name their squad for the Pakistan matches but will likely retain the 1-1 draw with Australia, especially since the first Test will be held in Galle, where spinners thrive.

So far, both Sri Lanka and Pakistan have scored similar percentage points as they compete for a place in the World Test Championship final next year.

Against Pakistan starting from July 16:-

Left-arm spinners Praveen Jayawickrama and Lasith Embuldeniya have been dropped from Sri Lanka’s 18-man squad for the two-match Test series against Pakistan starting on July 16.

The more inexperienced left-arm spinner, Prabhat Jayasuriya, who took a record 12 wickets on his Test debut against Australia, and the uncapped Dunith Velalez, who was included in the Covid-hit squad ahead of the second Test last week, have been included.

The first Test will be played in Galle on 16 July, the second in Colombo on 24 July. The series will be part of the World Test Championship, with Sri Lanka third and Pakistan fourth.
