West Indies Women and South Africa Women played a thrilling game at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Sunday (September 19) with West Indies Women winning a Super Over thriller.

The game was forced into a Super Over by both the teams scoring 192 at the end of the game and West Indies dropped the required runs to end the series with a win.

Dottin’s happiness didn’t last long :-

Apart from not losing a wicket, the visitors could manage only six runs in the Super Over as Deandra Dottin worked her side with the ball. However, Dottin’s joy did not last long as she was run out on the first ball of West Indies’ chase.

Another wicket there would have given South Africa a fine 5-0 win. But Chadian Nation and Hayley Matthews kept the peace to secure victory.

If not for a spectacular comeback with the ball from the home side, this game would not have come anywhere close to a tie in first place. Chasing the target of 193 runs, South Africa were making a century partnership for the first wicket.

Lizelle Lee hits a fifty :-

In-form opener Lizelle Lee hit another half-century and Tazmin Brits played their third ODI to provide enough approval from the other end. However, Kiana Joseph, in successive openers, dismissed Lee for 61 and Lara Goodall for a duck.

The hosts took advantage of the opportunity with both hands by securing further successes that were halting South Africa’s development. Shanetta Grimond removed the Brits and captain Dane van Niekerk, causing unrest in the dressing room. Only Mignon du Preez lasted long until the end and the other batsmen failed to grant permission.

Grimond hit two more boundaries and du Preez was run out on the last ball of the innings when the visitors were expecting just one run to win.

Earlier in the day, West Indies batted with the bat to post a normal score of 192/5 on the board. Raines Boyce, Nation and Dottin’s caught the balls but never managed to advance and put pressure on opener Rashada Williams.

The Join forces with Mathews :-

She joined forces with Matthews to revive the innings, but the pair took longer than they would have ideally wished for a 97-run partnership. Struggling to stabilize the pace, Williams and Matthews took 149 balls for their partnership, meaning there was much to be expected in the final four overs.

West Indies never really got the excitement as Williams ran her bat throughout the innings to remain unbeaten on 78 off 138 balls.

Brief team scores :- West Indies Women’s 192/5 in 50 overs (Rashda Williams 78, Hayley Mathews 48; Nadine de Klerk 3-33) 192/7 in 50 overs with South Africa Women’s (Lizelle Lee 61, Tazmin Brits 48) ; Shanetta Grimond) 4-33, Kiana Joseph 2-29) West Indies won the Super Over.
