Meg Lanning’s Bold Announcement Upholds Results to Final Season
Meg Lanning’s bold announcement kept all four results in the tea game on the final season in Canberra as openers Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield-Hill chased down 257 to help England win the final session in 42 overs to 234. Runs were expected.
A Put in Position To Declare :-
The Australia captain called up her team after Beth Mooney’s 63, and significant contributions from Ellyse Perry (41), Ash Gardner (38) and Tahlia McGrath (34) put the home team in a position to declare that she had Overnight it was kept at 12 for 12.

This allowed Australia to take 10 wickets in six overs before tea and a total of 48 overs, but Beaumont made an unbeaten 18 off 20 balls with three fours making England’s intentions clear as the total remained well within reach .
Earlier, Katherine Brunt added Lanning to her eight-wicket haul for the match, taking 3 for 24 in the third innings, while Charlie Dean took his first two Test wickets to keep Australia in shambles.
But they could have chased much less if not for three fallen catches and one missed stumping, with keeper Amy Jones responsible for three errors.
After lunch, Brunt found Lanning’s outside edge with a beautiful outswinger as captain Heather Knight thumped it smoothly at first slip.
The Five fours in a Run-a-Ball 38 :-
Gardner caught the game with a neck-scraper in a run-a-ball 38 with five fours. There were some loose strokes with edges sailing into the gap, but he hit the ground with some elegant lofted drives while playing without fear.
Gardner and McGrath shared a 48-run partnership to extend the lead to 200 before Gardner was trying to hook Nat Sciver at fine leg.
Avoiding a missed stumping, McGrath picked up the slack and fielded Dean, but the debutant took his exchange on the next ball and clean bowled the all-rounder for 34 with the help of an off-break through the gate.
Jess Jonassen was sent out with a license. Three fours off six balls and swing to give Lanning the option of sending him to England before tea.
In the morning session, Mooney and Perry put on a joint 91-run partnership to help extend Australia’s lead by 52 runs. The pair had two big pieces of luck, though Jones dismissed both players with the bowling of Kate Cross.
Mooney, who played fluently throughout the morning and deserved his second Test half-century, edged Cross on 40 off a fine length delivery that cut the seam.
It was a very simple catch from Jones to the left but the keeper took off his gloves too soon and it bounced off his glove and ran for four.
Perry was 30 four overs later when he tring to drive fast upwards and got a thick edge that flew towards first slip. Jones threw his right hand in front of Knight, but the ball did not stick and was passing for two runs, causing Cross to fall to his dunks in disbelief at his misfortune.
A Great Straight Drive :-
Beth Mooney and Perry showed positive play apart from errors. Mooney picked up anything straight or wide. While Perry continued to drive in addition to sideways movement from the seamer and was rewarding with two of the morning’s best shots from the cross, a fine straight drive from the umpire and a fine drive from the umpire.
