Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane found guilty of rape, punishment to be announced in next hearing

Sandeep Lamichhane, former captain of Nepal’s cricket team and who played for Delhi Capitals in two seasons of IPL, has been found guilty of rape. The Kathmandu District Court delivered its final verdict on Sandeep Lamichhane on 29 December. A single bench comprising Justice Shishir Raj Dhakal passed the order after the conclusion of the final hearing which began on Sunday. However, the court concluded that the girl was not a minor at the time of the rape.

According to The Kathmandu Post, Sandeep Lamichhane will be jailed :-

According to The Kathmandu Post, the jail sentence of this senior national team player will be decided in the next hearing. At that time it will be decided how many days Sandeep Lamichhane will have to spend behind bars. Lamichhane is currently out on bail. On January 12, Patan High Court had ordered the release of the cricketer. Lamichhane had filed a review petition. He was ordered released on a surety bond of Rs 20 lakh with conditions.

Lamichhane tried with all his might :-

The Kathmandu District Court had passed an order to send Sandeep Lamichhane to the Central Jail in Sundhara after the custody hearing on 4 November 2022. Lamichhane had moved the High Court challenging the order. The girl had filed a case against the 22-year-old cricketer at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala on September 6. At that time it was claimed that the girl was a minor, but the court did not find so.
