Sanjay Bangar to be appointed as head coach of RCB for IPL 2022
Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Sanjay Bangar as the head coach for the upcoming IPL season. He will take over the coaching responsibility of the team from Mike Hesson. Who will, in turn, continue with the set-up as Director of Cricket Operations. Incidentally, the former New Zealand coach took over the role of head coach for the UAE leg of IPL 2021.
A Played coaching role with multiple set-ups :-
Sanjay Bangar, who played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India, has played a coaching role with several set-ups. In 2010, he was the batting coach of Kochi Tuskers in the IPL.
Prior to the 2014 IPL season, he was designated as the assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab. Additionally, during the same season. He took over from Darren Lehmann as head coach and guided the team to their best performance – runners-up – in the IPL.

This year he was appointed as the batting consultant of RCB. He has served as the head coach of the Indian team that toured Zimbabwe in June 2016 as well as in various coaching capacities – batting coach, assistant coach.

Bangar has been a part of our support staff as a batting consultant and brings a wealth of experience as both a player and batting coach, apart from working extensively with the Indian cricket team.
Sanjay has been selected as the head coach after a rigorous and robust selection strategy. We are confident that he will be able to unleash his spirit and maximize the potential of the team. I congratulate Sanjay Banga on this appointment and wish him all the best in starting this new chapter.”

With Mike Hesson in dual roles as head coach and team director during this year’s IPL’s UAE stint. RCB advanced to the playoff position but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator.
