Two players selected in the T20 squad for the New Zealand tour are contenders for this order. Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer. In the presence of Kohli, Suryakumar plays at number four. Now it has to be seen at what number he lands in the second T20. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has given his opinion on this. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that Shreyas Iyer should be given a chance down the order. He has made his place with hard work.

Fourth spot is locked for Suryakumar

Ashwin said, “I would like to see Shreyas Iyer at number three under any circumstances. The fourth spot is locked for Suryakumar. There will be talk of sending him to third but I think Iyer has earned his right. So Iyer is fine at three and Surya at four. The veteran off-spinner also talked about the possibilities of Rishabh Pant replacing the opener. He said that if Pant gets a chance to open, then Washington Sundar, being a left-handed batsman, should play the role of number five.

Ashwin said, “If you send Rishabh Pant at the top, we will not have any left-hander in the middle order. There is also a lot of talk about not having a left-hander in the middle order. Left-right combination is really important in T20. Is there a left-handed middle order option available? The only other option left is Washington Sundar. I don’t know whether the team management will send him at five or not but if they see Sundar in that role If he doesn’t see, I don’t know where he will fit in the team.
