GILL Health Update: After suffering from dengue and being ruled out of the opening match against Australia in Chennai, Shubman Gill will also miss India’s second World Cup match against Afghanistan in Delhi on Wednesday.

The BCCI said that Gill will not travel with the team to Delhi and will “remain in Chennai and will be under the observation of the medical team”.

Two days before the Australia game, head coach Rahul Dravid said, “He (Gill) is definitely feeling better today than yesterday, so that’s positive, but the medical team is monitoring him on a day-to-day basis.” We have 36 hours to go, so we’ll see how it goes. We’ll probably wait until the last minute to make a decision.”

But Gill could not recover in time. “We waited till this morning and he couldn’t recover,” Rohit Sharma said during the toss against Australia.
