ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for May revealed

The three-star batsmen were shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award after enjoying successful performances for the month of May.

ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for May revealed

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

The Pakistan captain once again stood up for his country. This time in his team’s home ODI series against New Zealand.

After dropping the first two of five matches in late April. Pakistan bounced back with two wins in early May to become 4–1 series winners.

It was little surprise that positive results came through Babar’s achievements with the bat.

Babar was involved in a second-wicket century partnership with Imam-ul-Haq on 3 May, ending with 54 runs from 62 balls as his side moved to 287/6. He used six bowlers in his side’s effort in the field as the tourists were bowled out for 261 in reply.

The captain took a 4–1 lead two days later in the next match. Claiming player of the match honors in his team’s 102-run victory. Babar scored 107 (117), his 18th ODI century, helping the hosts reach 334/6.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh)

The rise of Najmul Hussain Shanto continued last month. The 24-year-old is enjoying another stellar series, this time against Ireland in the ODI format.

Put in the number 3 position for the series. Najmul opened with an inning of 44, however, his innings proved futile as the rain came and resulted in no result.

In the second match, Najmul’s heroics secured a resounding victory. Chasing 320 in a 45-over affair. Najmul brought up his maiden hundred in the format in just 83 balls, hitting 117 off 93 balls with 12 fours and three sixes.

Bangladesh won in the final over of the chase, and Najmul again contributed in match three, scoring 35 and taking 1/10 with his off-spin in a five-run victory.

Najmul’s effort was rewarded with Player of the Series honors as Bangladesh ended their successful Super League campaign on a high.

Harry Tector (Ireland)

The 23-year-old starlet continues to prove he is the present and future of the Republic of Ireland team. Despite a disappointing end to his Super League campaign.

Reaching 21* during the first ODI against Bangladesh at Chelmsford before rain curtailed it, in the second ODI Tector scored a career-best 140 from 113 balls studded with seven fours and an astonishing 10 sixes.

What made Tector’s achievements all the more impressive was the fact that the No.4. He was struggling with his team at 16/2 in the 7th over. But by the time he was dismissed at the end of the 42nd, the contest had turned Was.

Tector and George Dockrell (74* from 47 balls) powered Ireland to 319 in 45 overs, though Bangladesh, largely through fellow nominee Najmul Hossain Shanto, escaped victory.

The Ireland batsman backed up his credentials with a 48-ball 45 in the third ODI and Bangladesh.
