‘Sachin didn’t play a single shot for the first 10 overs’, Ex-Pak legend tells story of memorable Test

India vs Pakistan has always been a fierce rivalry in cricket. From Javed Miandad’s last-ball six in Sharjah to Virender Sehwag’s triple century in Multan, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 151-run partnership in Dubai to Virat Kohli’s brilliant 82 in last year’s World Cup, don’t know that India-Pakistan cricket is full of memorable moments.

Former Pakistan cricket legend Saqlain Mushtaq shared one such memorable moment on Nadir Ali’s podcast –

He said – “The Test was being played in Chennai between India vs Pakistan. There is no better Test than this in Pakistan’s cricket history, it was ranked as the No. 1 Test. In the first innings, I gave Sachin the 1st or 2nd delivery When he came out to bat in the next innings, that was the turning point of the match.”

Saqlain further said – “Sachin didn’t play a single shot for the first 10 overs. He played all my balls that I bowled at him. I tried off-spin, second top-spin, arm-ball. Bowled quick off-breaks, flighted deliveries, played me carefully for 10-12 overs, then started thrashing me.”

The first Test match was named after Tendulkar-Saqlain –

It may be noted that Pakistan had visited India in 1999 amid the Kargil war. Test series was played between the two countries. Many records were made in this test series. In the same series, Anil Kumble dismissed all 10 Pakistani batsmen in one innings.

The first Test match played in Chennai was named after Tendulkar and Saqlain Mushtaq. In this Test match, where Sachin played an inning of 136 runs in the second innings. At the same time, Saklan had performed excellent bowling. This test match was in the name of Pakistan.
