Ranji Trophy 2022: Ajinkya Rahane smashes 10 fours to score half-century, signs of a comeback

New Delhi, Online Desk. Ajinkya Rahane, the former vice-captain of the Indian Test team, has been under constant criticism for his poor form. He was also removed from the vice-captaincy of the Test team and there was talk of dropping him from the team after being flopped in South Africa. Ranji Trophy turned out to be one last chance for him. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had also suggested him to come back after scoring runs in the domestic tournament.

Ajinkya Rahane has played a strong innings in the first match of Ranji Trophy. Batting excellently against Saurashtra, he scored a half-century with the help of 10 fours. During this he faced 103 balls and handled Mumbai’s faltering innings. Ajinkya Rahane got what he needed on the first day of the Ranji Trophy on Thursday, 17 February.

Ajinkya Rahane along with Sarfaraz Khan handled the innings and carried the score

The Mumbai captain won the toss and elected to bat first but his start was not good. The team got the first blow as captain Prithvi Shaw on 2 runs. After this, Drew Gomel also lost wickets when the team’s score was 22 runs. The team got the third blow on the score of 44 runs. From here Ajinkya Rahane along with Sarfaraz Khan handled the innings and carried the score.

Ajinkya Rahane has been going through days of poor form. The selectors have indicated to drop him from the Test team. He captained India in the Test series win in Australia and scored a century in the second Test. Since then no big innings came from his bat.
