Those five players are expected to do well during the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 WC in Australia.

1. David Warner of Australia

Only Pakistan captain Babar Azam scored more runs than Warner in last year’s event and the experienced Australia players are generally the better players when playing on home soil.

Warner hit three half-centuries in last year’s tournament and his 289 runs at an impressive strike rate of around 150 were the best for the leading players.

His scintillating form was one of the major reasons why Australia’s team was able to hoist the trophy at the Dubai International Stadium.

2. Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka all-rounder has already shown his ability to save his best for the big occasion and has to think he can dominate for the island nation in Australia.

Hasaranga lit up the 2021 event by claiming the most wickets (16) by any player and backed that performance by ending Sri Lanka’s victorious Asia Cup campaign as the Player of the Tournament.

Big grounds in Australia are a surety for the 25-year-old and it is almost certain that the star spinner will be among the leading wicket-takers again this year.

3. Jos Buttler of England

While the England captain is currently battling a calf injury, we expect him to recover in time to lead the attack for the 2010 winners.

In the past 12 months, there is no one in the world in better form than Butler, the 32-year-old being the only player to have scored a century at last year’s events in the UAE and Oman.

Buttler hit an unbeaten 101* against Sri Lanka in Sharjah and looked in even better shape during this year’s edition of the IPL when he reached triple figures on four occasions and scored 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals.

His efforts were not up to his high standards during the home series against India and South Africa in July. But Buttler is sure to be at his best in Australia.

4. Suryakumar Yadav of India

Suryakumar Yadav’s emergence in 2022 has been surprising, with the in-form right-handed batsman now arguably Rohit Sharma’s key player.

Yadav managed to make only four appearances for India in last year’s edition of the T20 World Cup. And his modest comeback of 42 runs in three innings garnered hardly any feathers in the circles of world cricket.

But since then the 32-year-old has been a model of consistency and has now rated himself as the No. 2 T20I batsman in the world in the latest ranking list.

5. Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan

You would struggle to find a more consistent T20I batsman than the veteran Pakistani opener. And should come as no surprise that he is now rating as the No.1 T20I batsman in the world.

Rizwan’s stability in the top order will be crucial to Pakistan’s chances of claiming the title in Australia. And the 30-year-old will be out to replicate the excellent efforts he made with the bat at last year’s event.

In the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rizwan scored three half-centuries and a total of 281 runs at an average of 70. With teammates Babar Azam and Australia’s David Warner were the only players to score more heavily than a right-handed batsman for the tournament.
