Ravichandran Ashwin is the third highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who became the third highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket, revealed that he feared that his career would end last year amid the circumstances arising out of the Corona pandemic. He overtook Harbhajan Singh (417 wickets in 103 Tests) by taking the 419th wicket in the 80th Test.

He said, ‘I did not play the last Test in Christchurch which started on 29 February 2020. I was at the crossroads whether I would be able to play Test again or not. what is my future Will I get a place in the Test team because I was playing the same format? God is merciful and now things have changed completely. I came in the Delhi Capitals team and when you (Shreyas) were the captain, the situation started changing. He had to leave IPL because of this.

Harbhajan turned off-spinner

He said that Harbhajan inspired him to bowl off-spin. He said that seeing Harbhajan’s performance against Australia in 2001, he was inspired to become an off-spinner. They said,

Taking inspiration from him, I started off-spin bowling and reached here today. Thanks Bhajji pa for motivating me. This is a wonderful achievement. It is a matter of pride for me that I took my 200th wicket on this ground and left Harbhajan behind on this ground.

Ravichandran Ashwin disappointed with Test draw

Regarding the first Test being drawn, he said, ‘I can’t believe that we could not win. Even after getting so close to victory. It is difficult for me to digest this. This happened once in Jamaica as well. On the last day we were trying to win but could not win. Because of bowling in the last innings, it will take me more time to recover from it.
