Vinesh Phogat – You don’t speak in our favor, but at least give a message that justice should be done

In an interview with the Indian Express newspaper, he said, “The whole country worships cricket but not a single cricketer has spoken anything. We are not saying that you should not speak for us, but at least give a message that justice should be done. This makes me very sad… be it cricketers, badminton players, athletics, boxing….,

There are also cricketers who showed their support during the Black Lives Matter movement in America

Citing the example of the ‘Black Lives Matter movement, Vinesh said, “It is not that there are no great athletes in our country. There are also cricketers who showed their support during the Black Lives Matter movement in America. Aren’t we even worth it?”

Veteran cricketer Kapil Dev shows solidarity with the protesters

Vinesh’s comments come at a time when politicians and leaders are joining the protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. On Thursday, veteran cricketer Kapil Dev showed solidarity with the protestors and posted a picture of the three wrestlers on his social media handle with the caption: “Will they ever get justice?”

Meanwhile, Vinesh expressed disappointment over Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha’s remarks on the wrestlers’ protest, saying there is a lack of discipline among the wrestlers.

Wrestlers lack discipline

Terming Usha’s comments as ‘insensitive’, Vinesh said, “We live according to the Constitution and are free citizens. We can go anywhere. If we are sitting outside on the streets, there must be some reason, there must be some reason why nobody has listened to us, be it the IOA or the Sports Ministry. It is insensitive of him to say this. I called him as well, but he didn’t pick up my call.”
