Asia Cup 2023: Afghanistan announced team for Asia Cup under Hashmatullah Shahidi. Afghanistan on Sunday released the squad for the Asia Cup.

The board handed over the command of the team to Shahidi:-

The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the 17-member squad. The board has handed over the command of the team in the hands of Hashmatullah Shahidi.

The Asia Cup will begin on August 30. In Afghanistanโ€™s first match is to be played on September 3 against Bangladesh in Lahore.

The teamโ€™s second match against Sri Lanka will also be played in Lahore. Only the opening matches of the Asia Cup, being played in the hybrid model, are to be played in Pakistan, while the remaining matches, including the final, will be held in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan Players Injured and Covid-infected:-

Five countries have announced squads for the tournament. Now only the Sri Lankan team is yet to be releasing. The release of the team is delaying due to injury and COVID-19 infection of Sri Lankan players.

Talking about Afghanistan, recently the team had to lose the one-sided series of three ODIs to Pakistan. However, Afghanistanโ€™s batsmen performed well in the matches.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who were including in the Asia Cup squad, played brilliant innings in the 30th ODI.

In which Gurbaj played his ODI career-best innings of 151 runs. However, Afghanistan had to face defeat in this match as well.
