‘Amazon Prime Video’ secures ‘World Cup Broadcasting Rights’ for Australian region

Amazon Prime Video has secured the World Cup Broadcasting Rights for the Australian region. On November 19, almost two weeks after Pat Cummins’s team won the World Cup in Ahmedabad, the International Cricket Council (ICC) finalized the agreement with the streaming giant.

With this signing, the ICC has sold the rights for its global games in all major territories, with only the Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh regions remaining untouched.

Australian fans will be able to access ODI World Cup 2027 only digitally :-

With this agreement, Australian fans will be able to access the ODI World Cup, to be held in South Africa Zimbabwe and Namibia four years later, in 2027, only digitally.

Apart from Men’s World Cup, Amazon Prime Video has also got the broadcast rights of Women’s World Cup, T-20World Cup, Champions Trophy, Under-19 World Cup and World Test Championship Final.

‘Amazon Prime Video’: This deal with Amazon is valid for four years:-

This deal is valid for four years till 2027 and its first major event is the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and America in June 2024.

Given that no Australian laws obligate broadcasters to share content in the public interest with any free-to-air channel; Amazon Prime is not obliged to distribute matches on any national channel. As a result, fans will need a subscription to watch these global games.

ICC said in a statement :-

“The new partnership, which will begin in January 2024, will give Australian fans exclusive access to all cricket formats across elite ICC competitions at no extra Prime membership cost,” the ICC said in a statement.
