An Excellent Performance from Meg Lanning today as we enter the World Cup, England now have their last good performance of the series with a win in the final in Melbourne on February 8 after losing the first two ODIs against Australia There will be hope.
The series which began with three T20Is followed by a dramatic Test match, all came down to a three-match ODI series. Australia finally emerged victorious in the multi-document series after winning the second ODI.

The home team maintained their fear throughout the ODI series. England’s poor batting form paid the price for the Ashes Trophy in ODIs. They have consistently lost wickets, leading to an unsuccessful run chase in the first ODI and poor batting performance in the second.
It has been the England bowlers whose efforts have brought them back into the game several times, but it takes the entire team to snatch victory from the opposition, and the England batsmen have failed to contribute much.
Australia, on the other hand, has been clinical with the efforts of its team. The bowlers have picked up wickets at the right time and the batsmen have also taken responsibility when required.
Beth Mooney’s scintillating 73 in the first ODI saved them from collapse and Perry’s all-round performance in the second ODI was enough for them to seal the series.
Going into the last ODI, the Australian top order will play its background and give their team a decent start from the middle order batsmen to set up a blueprint for a good ending.
The medium pace bowlers have also been exceptional in this series. The Australian team will now look to clean sweep the ODI series and win the Ashes trophy.
After losing the first ODI in Canberra, England was asked to bat first in the second match in Melbourne. Their poor batting form continued and England could manage only 129 runs. Sophie Ecclestone scored 32 runs in 65 balls for England.
He took three wickets for just 12 runs in seven overs in the first innings and then played a match-winning knock of 40 runs in 64 balls. This led to a fine partnership between McGrath and Gardner in the end, scoring 19 and 31 respectively to help Australia win the match by 5 wickets.
Meg Lanning (Australia captain):– “I thought it was an excellent effort from the bowlers, the pitch was better than what we saw. We wanted to do better with the bat, but it was good work.
Darcy’s rest gave Ellyse Perry the opportunity to pick up the new ball and it’s the best I’ve seen him in a long time.

We haven’t played the game to our full potential yet, going into the next match and the World Cup, I want to see a perfect game from the girls.
Heather Knight (England captain):– “The wicket was a little slow, it wasn’t easy, later in the day. It dried up, 200 would have been a good score on the board. Hopefully, we’ll learn from that in the World Cup. We need to score runs. We have to find a way, find the gap in the outfield, and grow some partnerships.
