Power-hitting all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner is preparing for promotion up the batting order in the absence of Rachael Haynes. Because Australia hopes to bring back the momentum in the T20 Internationals against India starting Thursday in the Gold Coast.
Ashleigh Gardner is likely to fall down the order not batting higher than No. 5 in Australia’s last six T20Is, after completing her maiden Test half-century during Australia’s draw with India at Carrara.

Ashleigh Gardner batted behind Haynes in all six matches against New Zealand last summer
Ashleigh Gardner batted behind Haynes in all six matches against New Zealand last summer. With Australia’s hierarchy preferred to use as much of the left-handed right-handed combination as possible during both series. But being absent from a hamstring injury, Gardner knows it’s possible to go up the order.
“I think it’s something I should be aware of.” Ashley Gardner said. “Obviously, with Rach’s experience, she’s a huge loss to us. She reaches out to different areas for everyone. And she clearly plays a very different game than I do.

I’ll bat wherever the team needs me, says Ashley Gardner
“I know the top four have been pretty flexible over the last 12-18 months. We obviously like to use the left and right combo. And now with Rach missing there’s clearly something more in that top six. I’m a right-handed player. Joe I don’ I will bat. I am very clear about what my role is in T20 cricket.
Australia’s only other left-handed specialist batsman in the team is the uncapped Georgia Redmayne. Nicola Carey and Sophie Molineux bat at the top of the order for their WBBL sides. But at the international level, he is seen as a bowling all-rounder. Much of Redmayne’s recent success in Australian domestic cricket has come from his batting debut.

“Georgia has clearly earned its spot to come into this Australian side,” said Ashleigh Gardner . “She’s had some really good Big Bash. She’s played some really good cricket for Queensland as well. She also reaches the other top four in various areas. Which clearly likes to go on the field. She’s behind the wicket Miz [Alyssa Healy], totally different from Moons [Beth Mooney]. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets approved for T20s. But I know whoever replaces Rachel in that batting order will be fantastic. do your work.”
Australia is set to welcome Tayla Vlaeminck after being ruled out of ODIs and Tests. Vlaeminck is set to play two of the three matches to manage his workload.
I think Tai is the fastest bowler in the world, says Ashleigh Gardner
Ashley Gardner said, “I think Tai is the fastest bowler in the world and that’s what we love to have in our arsenal.”
“It’s exciting to have her back in the set-up, fit and eager to go. I know she’s terrorizing all our batsmen in the nets. And people haven’t enjoyed facing her. But that’s just it. Knowing what the impact could be against him. This Indian side is really exciting. Potentially bowling Darcy Brown and Tayla Vlaminck from both ends is a pretty spectacular sight.”
Australia lead 6-4 in the multi-format series but have been struggling since winning the opening two ODIs. He was completely out in the third ODI and Test match. But Gardner believes that the changes in T20 cricket will help the hosts finish the series.
