Annabel Sutherland says Aus, which last year posted a record winning streak of 26 ODI victories, are unlikely to change their outlook on an England side desperate to get back in the series.
“I don’t think there has been much change,” Sutherland said. “To be honest. I think we’ve had a lot of success in one-day cricket over the years, so we’re very confident that our cricket can get the job done.
“We will get firm over the next day or two to see what it’s going to look like from our point of view, but I think we have a lot of confidence in our one-day cricket.”
Sophia Dunkley was chasing England with a fine inning and smashed sixes after one in the first over of Sutherland’s last spell, but Meg Lanning kept faith in the leg-spin of Sutherland and debutant Alana King, instead of slamming her. Turn to something else. Experienced bowler.
Sutherland said, ‘Yeah, I was a little surprised to bowl again after that over. “But I was just happy to play my part and we tweaked our strategy a bit by coming around the wicket and trying to hit the leg-stump a little bit more which worked.
The determination to be with Sutherland paid off as he took the wicket of a well-set net Sciver and took 3 for 69 in 13 overs with quick wickets from Amy Jones and Katherine Brunt.
“We were just talking about the particular length at which I was throwing each ball and we really wanting to fix that when we working so hard to get back in the game,” Sutherland said.
“And yes, it was definitely good to have ‘Page’ next to me and she was definitely good at keeping me calm and focused on what I wanted.
“But it was a lot of fun like there was no space. after which I was charging and almost trying to work to get a win.”
Sutherland was dropping from Australia’s T20 line-up, but the all-rounder’s performance was under pressure in Tests. Which, in the final session. had all the hallmarks of a white-ball death-bowling spell, made him eligible for the final leg of the series.
