Steve Smith retirement: There has been speculation for the past several days about veteran batsman Steve Smith that he may say goodbye to Test cricket in the coming few months. Now putting an end to such speculations, he has given a big statement on retirement.
Smith says that he does not like to think too far and looks at things on a day-by-day basis. This view of Smith is completely different from his fellow Australian cricketer David Warner. 37-year-old opening batsman Warner had announced his Test retirement a few months ago. He will retire from the longest format after the three-match Test series against Pakistan. The series starts from December 14 and the last match will be played from January 3, 2024.
34-year-old Smith is currently in the Australian team’s plans in all formats. He was recently part of the Kangaroo team that won the ODI World Cup 2023. He also tried his hand at opening the innings for Australia in T20 International. He will now be seen in the series against Pakistan.

“I don’t really like to look too far ahead,” Smith told Fox Sports before the series. And, you know I take it series by series, match by match and just enjoy the moment. Whatever the legacy is, whatever it looks like, it’s really of no concern to me. I’m not really bothered about that. Other people can talk like that. I do my work every day and enjoy it.”
After Warner’s retirement, there will be a transition period in the Australian team. In such a situation, experienced players like Smith will play an important role. He is the vice-captain of the Test team. He has also led the team in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins. He said that if any young player wants to talk on any topic, his doors are always open.
Let us tell you that Smith made his debut in Test cricket in 2010. He has played 102 tests so far and scored 9320 runs. His average during this period was 58.62. He has scored 32 centuries and 29 half-centuries in this format. He is in the ‘Fab Four’, which includes strong batsmen like Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Kane Williamson.
