29-year-old Akshar Patel credited Australian legend and former captain Ricky Ponting for improving his batting. Ponting plays the role of coach of Delhi Capitals in IPL. Akshar said that Ponting played an important role in improving his batting. In the second Test on Saturday, he played a match-changing inning of 74 runs.

Akshar Moves Towards Becoming a Finisher!

After the stumps on the second day of the second Test, Akshar said, ‘I talked a lot with Ricky in Delhi Capitals about how I can improve my batting. Even in the Indian team, I have been talking to the batsmen. I felt that I am not able to do according to my ability by scoring 30-40 runs, I am not able to ‘finish’ the match. It was a lot about mental strength. Sometimes as an all-rounder, you get comfortable after taking wickets, which can make you careless. So I thought that I can improve that I can convert these 30-40 runs into match-winning scores.

Akshar and Ashwin added 114 runs

Akshar and Ravichandran Ashwin together put pressure on the Australian bowlers. Ashwin contributed 37 runs. Akshar and Ashwin together played a century partnership of 114 runs for the eighth wicket. Despite this, the Indian team scored 262 runs and fell short of Australia’s first innings score by just one run. Akshar’s innings of 84 in the first Test at Nagpur helped India score 400 runs.
