The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the eight original Indian Premier League (IPL) teams can retain a maximum of four players. While the two new teams will have three players out of the auction.
The BCCI, in a mail to the franchises on Saturday afternoon, said that the 8 existing teams will first get a chance to retain a maximum of 4 players. And only after that 2 new teams will be able to retain maximum 3 players before the auction.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) further confirmed that the salary cap for the IPL 2022 season is Rs. 90 crores for all teams” Window for 8 existing teams to retain players will be from 1st November 2021 to 30th November 2021. After that 2 new teams will have window to retain players from 1st December. From 2021 onwards 25 December 2021.”

The BCCI also said that old franchises cannot retain more than three Indian (capped/uncapped) players. Whereas the number of foreign players in the retention list is limited to two. It clearly states that a team cannot keep more than two uncapped players.

As far as the new teams are concerned, two Indians can be picked out of the auction. Whereas the number of foreign players can be only one. In addition, new teams can pick only one uncapped player before the auction.
