BCCI: Only 3 candidates were able to pass the umpiring exam of BCCI, such questions were asked

BCCI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has faced many times that there is a shortage of umpires and the decisions of those who are umpires become the cause of controversies.

Keeping this in mind, BCCI took the exam for umpiring in July 2022, but the surprising thing was that 140 candidates participated in it and only 3 people could pass it. 137 people failed.

Last month, the BCCI had organized the examination for the umpiring of Group D :-

Last month, the BCCI had conducted an exam to officiate Group D matches in Ahmedabad. Junior women’s cricket and junior men’s cricket are included under Group D.

Tests were taken for umpiring for matches of the same level, but only 3 people were able to pass it. Group D umpiring is what opens the doors for you to officiate in national and international cricket.

BCCI:The umpiring exam was of 200 marks :-

To pass the exam for umpiring was of 200 marks, in which written exam was of 100 marks, viva and video was of 35 marks and physical was of 30 marks, out of which at least 90 marks were to be scored but 137 out of 140 People could not do this.

This was the first time after the Corona epidemic that the board had conducted the examination for umpiring. In the video test of the exam, questions were asked about the footage of the match and umpiring in special circumstances.

Here are some of the questions asked :-

• Question: Can a bowler bowl with a bandage around his finger in case of injury?
• Answer: The bowler has to remove the bandage if he wants to bowl.

• Question: If the shadow of the pavilion, tree or fielder starts falling on the pitch and the batsman complains then you will stop the match or what action will you take?

• Answer: The shade of the pavilion or the tree should not be taken into account. The fielder should be asked to remain still, otherwise the umpire should call it a dead ball.

• Question: The batsman plays a shot and the ball hits the helmet of a fielder standing at short leg. If the helmet comes off his head and another fielder catches it, will you give the batsman out or not?

• Answer: The batsman will remain not out.

Most did well in Physical :-

However, the good thing was that most of them did well in physical but could not do so in the written test. A BCCI official told The Indian Express that the standard for umpiring Group D was set such that only the best qualified person proceeded for selection.

The official said, “Umpiring is a tough job. Only those who have passion for it can go ahead. The candidates sent by the state associations were not eligible. If they want to officiate on board matches, they should have knowledge.”
