Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers match postponed due to 12 positive cases

The Covid-19 outbreak in the Big Bash League has now stopped as the match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers is scheduled to take place on January 5. The game had already been postponed due to a Covid outbreak on Wednesday but had to be called off due to 12 positive cases in the heat squad.

Cricket Australia’s general manager Alistair Dobson said: “In this instance. The decision to postpone tonight’s match was the only option available due to the number of cases within the Heat Squad and the inability to secure the required number of players.” Big Bash League said.

The Heat’s fixture against the Melbourne Renegades on 6 January is set to go ahead with the club. Working through recruitment and testing requirements for players to participate in that match.

The other BBL fixture of the day. The Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes. The match has been pushed back by a few hours, and will begin at 7:15 pm AEDT.

The developments came on the same day that Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell became the 13th player in his squad to test positive for the virus.
