Cricket Australia offered to host SA Test series in Australia, but CSA rejected

A day after postponing the three-match Test series against South Africa, Cricket Australia’s (CA) Interim CEO, Nick Hockley on Wednesday said that the board did offer to play the series in Australia, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) declined the offer, citing other commitments.

The CA CEO said that every possible alternative was considered before submitting medical advice against traveling to the African nation that is currently reeling under a second wave of the pandemic.

“We’ll work through over the coming weeks and months when we may be able to reschedule the series. We did offer to host the series here but Cricket South Africa made that very clear that they’ve got lots of other commitments and quarantine periods and the like that wasn’t feasible,” Hockley said.

Hockley explained that the proposal fell down largely because CSA argued the extra time and money required for staging the series in Australia would make a range of other commitments impossible for South Africa to fulfill.

Cricket Australia’s decision has meant the team now needs India and England to play a close series in order to progress to the World Test Championship final in June.
