Australia women’s cricket team appointed Alyssa Healy as vice-captain. Healy is set to lead the Australian women’s cricket team this summer if called upon after Meg Lanning is appointed as vice-captain.
Retired Rachel Haynes’ Replacement:-
After filling in as vice-captain last summer, Healy was officially named as a replacement for the retired Rachel Haynes on Thursday.

There is every possibility that the role could be that of a stand-in captain, with Lanning no guarantee of returning from personal leave ahead of the December T20I series in India.
Lanning is currently abroad after taking a break from the game in August, and when he was replaced by the Australian players Healy contacted him personally to deliver the news.
Healy insisted on Thursday that the Aussies still had Lanning and he still hoped his close friend would return to the game with no discussion yet about captaincy in India.
Healy said, “I am positive that she will return to Australian cricket and I am not 100 percent sure in which role.” “This is a decision for Meg and me in particular I really support her making.
A Great Thing For Australian Cricket:-
“I’m happy with whatever role I play over the summer. If she comes back and says this is my team and I want to play and captain, that’s a great thing for Australian cricket.
But if it’s the flip side of it and there’s this conversation about me taking over then that’s really exciting for me.”
Australia also has a home series against Pakistan in January before a T20 World Cup defense in South Africa in February.
Healy was confident that if called upon, she would be able to perform her multiple roles. Including being both a wicket-keeper and an opener of the team.
He has experience doing this with New South Wales. A team in transition for the past four years with many older players retiring or moving elsewhere.
Australia also face a change of guard last month with Shelley Nitschke as the team’s new full-time coach. And Dan Marsh and Scott Prestige announced on Thursday as new assistants.
It’s really exciting to me:-
“It’s really exciting to me, to have the opportunity to help shape the next chapter of this group,” Healy said.
“If and when I am calling to captain I will be perfectly happy to do so. And will share some of my experience with the NSW Breakers over the years.”
There is also some possibility that Healy’s appointment could extend her own career. As she recently admitted that she had contemplated her future in recent months.
“It probably reactivates and refocuses too,” Healy said. “There have been very few moments and good opportunities along the way. That has reinvented me and the way I want to play the game.
