WTC Final 2023: Australia’s David Warner announced his retirement date before the WTC final. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India later in the year is also on Warner’s agenda.

Warner announced his retirement from Test cricket:-

Australia opener David Warner has announced his retirement from Test cricket during the upcoming Australian summer.

Warner is currently preparing for next week’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC Final) against India in England and is likely to take part in the five-match Ashes series with England soon after.

He would like to end his Test career after the Australia Test:-

But the 36-year-old has revealed he would like to end his Test career after Australia’s Test against Pakistan at their home ground in Sydney in January.

Warner told reporters about the news ahead of Australia’s training in Beckenham on Saturday.

The left-handed batsman indicated that he would like to complete his Test career after the Pakistan series and before the two-match series against the West Indies at home.

David Warner said, “I probably owe it to myself and my family, if I can get runs here and continue playing back in Australia – I can say for sure that I will not be playing the West Indies series.

I will definitely finish after:-

“If I can get through this (WTC final and the upcoming Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series then I will definitely finish after that.”

Warner, who has scored 25 centuries in 103 Tests for Australia. Does not think there will be any change in his mindset now that he has set an end date for his Test career.

David Warner is looking to end his Test career in early 2024. However, he wants to continue playing white-ball cricket for Australia until next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA.
