Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins is set to take the lead in ODI cricket provided Cricket Australia (CA) puts in place a ‘rotation-type policy’.

Australia’s David Warner is serving a life leadership ban for his involvement in the 2018 sandpaper scandal in Cape Town.

While many current and former players are supporting Warner’s leadership to lift the ban.

Where someone like David Warner can also get an opportunity to captain 50 overs. There has been a lot of discussion about who will lead the Australian ODI team after Aaron Finch recently stepped down and retired from the 50-over format due to poor form.

Captaincy or Vice-Captain Role:-

While Cummins and Warner are the front-runners to fill the position, Warner continues to be banned, which prevents him from captaining or vice-captaining the role of any team in the national side or the domestic Big Bash League.

Warner is serving a life leadership ban for his involvement in the 2018 ‘sandpaper scandal’ in Cape Town, while several current and former players are supporting Warner’s leadership ban to be lifting. For this, Cricket Australia (CA) has to rewrite its code of conduct.

As per the current CA rules, once a player has accepted a punishment by mistake, it cannot be challenged. But ever since Warner returned to the team after serving a one-year ban from all forms of cricket.

Including Australia’s first title win:-

He has guided the team to victories in several campaigns, including Australia’s maiden title win at the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year.

He has also been on his best behavior, prompting several current and former cricketers, including Cummins, to ask CA to lift the leadership ban on the veteran.

Australia’s packed schedule and the workload on Cummins make ODI captaincy rotation a different option.

The Newcastle Herald quoted Cummins as saying, “(Captaincy) is something I am preparing for. (But) it is not possible to play every single match.

If you had a committee it would have been really smooth. Almost everyone on the team really has the same style. We have got some great leaders on the team.

With Cricket Australia seriously considering the inclusion of an exemption clause in its code of conduct, the ban on Warner could be lifted.
