The International Cricket Council (ICC) said an independent tribunal has cleared former Sri Lanka batsman Avishka Gunawardene of two corruption charges.

Gunawardene’s former teammate, left-arm pacer Nuwan Zoysa got a major relief from the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. After the panel dismissed three of the four charges levied against the former Sri Lankan international.

Avishka Gunawardene was charged with Article 2.1.4 which relates to Directly or indirectly, soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging, or intentionally facilitating any participant to breach Code Article 2.1.

Zoysa, 42, a bowling coach after his 30 Tests and 95 one-day internationals. He was cleared of three out of the four charges against him. But his six-year ban will continue, the ICC said.

Influencing others, and failing to disclose full details of an approach to fix a match. But the charge of failing to cooperate with investigators stands.

Former Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya was banned for two years. In October 2018 for failing to cooperate with a match-fixing inquiry.
