But Livingstone was signed for a four-game stint in December after making a surprise appearance in England’s Test squad for the tour of Pakistan.
The 34-year-old Jamaican will be available for the first four matches of the Renegades of KFC BBL|12 before joining England’s squad after the conclusion of the third Test on December 21.
“I love playing in Australia and I look forward to seeing all Renegades fans at Marvel Stadium and Geelong,” Russell said.
“I will do everything I can to help the Melbourne Renegades get off to a great start to the tournament.”
Renegades head coach David Saker stated that at the time they could have picked Russell as their next pick, with Mujeeb and Tom Curran being their preferred picks retained by the Heat and Sixers respectively.
The Renegades will begin their BBL|12 campaign on December 15 against the Heat in Cairns before hosting the Thunder at Marvel Stadium on December 18.
