Danushka Gunathilaka: Three of the four charges in the Sri Lankan cricketer’s ongoing case in Australia have been dropped. Gunathilaka, 32, was arrested in Sydney in early November last year.

Gunatilaka’s ongoing cases in Australia:-

Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka’s ongoing case in Australia has been dropped by the public prosecutor on three of the four allegations of sexual assault.

When he was with the Sri Lankan team for the T20 World Cup. He has since been released on bail and his bail conditions have been relaxed.

This case has also been delayed due to the need for Gunathilaka to remain in Australia while following the legal process.

The prosecution successfully applied for an adjournment last month, which held the trial beyond the six-month requirement for charge verification.

Being subjected to undue hardship as a citizen:-

But Gunatilka’s lawyer, Alain Sahinovic, protested the delay, arguing that his client was facing undue hardship as a foreign national with limited family and social support.

The police fact sheet submitting with the original allegations stated that the woman. Whom Gunathilaka had met through the dating app Tinder, was “scared for her life” during the encounter.

After meeting at a Sydney bar, the pair had made their way to the woman’s home in the eastern suburbs, where the alleged sexual assault took place.

Sex without condom without the consent of the complainant:-

The original charges included non-consensual choking, digital penetration, and “sneaking” – sex without a condom without the complainant’s consent – which is a criminal act under New South Wales law.

Sri Lanka Cricket did not want to be outwardly seen as supporting Gunathilaka, but offering him significant assistance.

This included paying some of his legal costs, although the board said it hoped to recover the money.

Gunathilaka’s cricketing career has been suspended since his arrest.
