England’s camp said on Wednesday that the injury “failed to heal as expected and Knight’s treatment would continue”.

Nat Sciver will continue to be England’s captain at the Commonwealth Games, where no replacement player can be called up.

The host nation will be left with a 14-strong squad for the rest of the competition. Knight will be in Birmingham with the team.

Knight had injections in his hip joint:-

Knight had injections in his hip joint while sitting in the final two games of the South Africa series in an attempt to recover from the injury, but Sciver revealed on Tuesday that Knight had further scans, seeing only minor improvement.

“He’s not in a good place,” Sciver said. “She is better than the last few days, still a little pain in her hip.

“It’s probably going to be a little early to play against New Zealand. He went and saw our team doctor and did another scan.”

In Knight’s absence, England has won both their group games comfortably, with 17-year-old Alice Caps doing well at No. 3, Sciver at No. 4, and Amy Jones at No. 5.

Assured of a place in the semi-finals at Edgbaston:-

England is already assured of a semi-final spot at Edgbaston, with their final clash against New Zealand on Thursday to determine who tops Group B.

Australia, who are guaranteed to finish on top of Group A after beating Pakistan by 44 runs in their final group match on Wednesday, will play the second-placed team in Group B.
