England tour of West Indies for January 2022 extended
The January 2022 tour will now include five T20 Internationals – extended by three T20I matches – followed by a return to the Caribbean squad for three Tests in England in March – extended from the original two Tests.
The Test series, named in honor of West Indies batting icon Sir Vivian Richards and legendary England all-rounder Lord Botham, will be the first to feature the newly commissioned “Richards-Botham Trophy” between the two teams.
The new trophy pays tribute to the two veterans whose rivalry and friendship symbolizes a close relationship and mutual respect between the two sides.
The T20 International series will be the shortest format of play between the two sides and will be part of preparations for the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup in October 2022 in Australia and The three Tests will form part of the next ICC World Test Championship.
Ricky Skerritt, Cricket West Indies President said:
This expansion of next year’s England tour in the Caribbean is welcome news for West Indies cricket and the region’s tourism economy. “
“decision has come about because of the special relationship that has been developed between our respective boards.
“We have already started discussing how the England Cricket Board can help us in our development programs and I am delighted that the ECB is showing so much hunger and goodwill for us.”
We greatly appreciated the support of Cricket West Indies and all its male and female players, enabling us to host the full season of international cricket in the summer of 2020, “- England Chairman, Ian Watmore,”
