Former South African batsman Hashim Amla has been appointed as the batting coach of the Johannesburg-based Lions team for three years.

Hashim has been joined by former South African coach Russell Domingo at the Wanderers. He will replace JP Duminy. He will take over the responsibility of white ball coaching in the national team.

Domingo is also new in this role. He has taken over from Wandile Gwavu, who is the white ball fielding coach of South Africa.

Amla’s first role with the Provincial team:-

This is Amla’s first stint with a provincial team in South Africa after working as a batting consultant for MI Cape Town in the SA20.

He has also played the same role for the Cape Town Blitz in the Mzansi Super League. Amla featured in two matches for World Giants in the Master’s Legends League earlier this year but has retired from all other forms of the game.

In a statement released by the Lions on Wednesday, Amla said: “I am delighted to be working with Lions Cricket. They are one of the biggest Protea teams in the country and it is an honor to work with their players.”

“Head coach Russell Domingo and I go back many years. He was there as a coach while with the Proteas.

His experience as an international coach is something I look forward to teaming up with and sharing.”

Lions South Africa’s most successful franchise:-

Amla will take over the work immediately. South Africa’s domestic teams are in pre-season training. However, the schedule for the 2023-24 season has not been announced yet.

All 8 Division One teams are expected to play a T20 competition along with 7 first class, 50 over one-day cups.
