IPL 2023: Anil Kumble will no longer be the head coach of Punjab Kings

IPL 2023: Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings has decided not to extend the contract of legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble as head coach. According to a Cricinfo report, the decision to part ways with Kumble was taken by the board, which has several owners.

It was attended by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, industrialists Mohit Burman; Ness Wadia and Karan Paul as well as team CEO Satish Menon.

Franchisee in search of new coach before IPL 2023 season :-

The franchise is looking for a new coach ahead of the IPL 2023 season. An announcement in this regard is expected soon. Former India captain Kumble was made the head coach of Punjab Kings in October 2019 ahead of the 2020 season of IPL.

He was also the director of the team. But under him the team could not qualify for the playoffs even once. Twice the captain was KL Rahul and this season it was Mayank Agarwal.

PBKS have managed to make it to the Playoffs only twice in the IPL history so far :-

Punjab Kings have made it to the IPL playoffs only twice. The team has played only one final, which was played in the year 2014 and the team lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Kumble led the team in 42 matches, winning 18 and losing 22.

Two matches of the team were tied under his leadership. Kumble had previously worked as a mentor for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore before taking over the responsibility of coaching the Indian team in 2016.
