The team management and the captain were also accused of favoritism by sidelining Sarfaraz. However, now Rizwan has spoken on this subject.

Rizwan said- I think in the current form I did not deserve to play for Pakistan at that time.

“You can ask head coach Saqlain Mushtaq what I told him after the England Test series got over,” Rizwan said in an interview to Cricket Pakistan.

“I personally thought that I was not able to perform so I was not fit to play the next series.”

I asked to include Sarfaraz:-

Rizwan flopped with the bat in half a dozen Tests. He scored 262 runs in 12 innings at an average of 21.83 without a half-century. This was well below his career batting average (38.13).

Despite Rizwan’s poor form, Rizwan was replaced by Sarfaraz, who was included in the team after a long time. Rizwan said, “I was happy to see Sarfaraz perform because that’s what I wanted.”

“Sarfaraz has been doing well in domestic matches and now he deserves to get a chance. I asked her to join. Whoever does the best for Pakistan deserves to play.”

Went to coach and captain and said – you can drop me:-

Rizwan further said- “Some players said that every player goes through this phase and you cannot sit on the bench on the basis of some failures.

But I myself went to the coach and the captain and told them that you can drop me as I have not performed. Two players are witnesses to this conversation.

This was not the first time Rizwan’s benching raised eyebrows. He was famously left on the bench for most of his time at the Karachi Kings, playing just seven times in his last two years with the franchise.

On moving to Multan Sultans in 2021, he was appointed captain and led the team to their maiden PSL trophy as the second-highest run-scorer in the competition.

was sitting on the bench so there was no injury

Rizwan made a statement about his former franchise in PSL and said- “When I was sitting on the bench during PSL in the past, I never got hurt.

I felt that the Karachi Kings were honest with the team and keeping me on the bench was what the team needed at that time.”
