SA captain Temba Bavuma will make ideal preparation for the T20 WC campaign against India. The Proteas play India in three T20Is, with the first one at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

Temba Bavuma feels his upcoming T20I series against India will provide ideal preparation for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.

The games give South Africa a chance to refine the combination and strategy ahead of next month’s event in Australia, and Bavuma predicts a level playing field between the two world-class outfits.

“We are hoping it will be a good series, a competitive one, as is always the case when we play against India,” he added.

“Last time we were here, we were tested and challenged in all departments of our game and I think we responded well to those challenges. So I look forward to a good, strong, and competitive series.”

The team played a 2–2 series draw when they toured India at the start of the year, not with the only T20I series win in the last six.

The Proteas will quietly go into next month’s event with confidence, and their team for 2022 is arguably stronger than last year’s campaign, thanks to the return of Riley Russo at the top of the order and the emergence of young batting star Tristan Stubbs.

Bavuma has been satisfied for some time with his overall progress as a team.

“We have players who are playing a lot of cricket and I think we will handle their intensity.

“We also have guys who need some cricket under their belts. It’s going to give those guys some game time because it’s our last preparation in different conditions than Australia but it’s match time nonetheless.”

The hosts are winning the series 2-1 over Australia, which also features veteran batsman Virat Kohli.

Bavuma said, “As you must have seen in the last, his confidence has boosted the performance of the team.”

“We expect them to come out clearly and go ahead, which is good practice for the team. It would be good for us to go up against their best.
