Dushan Hemantha learned to play cricket from his father Sujit Hemantha. Sujit has also been a cricket coach. His passion and enthusiasm for cricket was recognized by his father when he was just seven years old.
Although Hemantha has also been an excellent athlete. He shot to fame by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 1500 meters race at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships.

A sports enthusiast since his school days, Hemantha captained his school’s under-19 team in the 2012–13 season and won the best captain award at the All Island Schools Cricket Awards.
He made his first-class debut for Colts Cricket Club in the 2013–14 Premier Trophy on 21 February 2014. Since then, he continued to perform brilliantly with bat and ball. However, it took some time for him to make a place in the national team.
A strong performance against England Lions
In January 2023 he was named in Sri Lanka A’s squad for the first-class and List A series against the England Lions. On 18 February 2023, he made headlines by taking five wickets.

He took 11 wickets in the List A series at an average of 11.45. He was named Player of the Series for his bowling performance. It will be interesting to see whether the Sri Lankan team gives this talented player a chance to make his debut or not.
