Sydney Thunder Sign Pakistan’s Usman Qadir To Strengthen Bowling Attack

Sydney Thunder has Sign Pakistan’s leg-spinner Usman Qadir to strengthen their bowling attack for the BBL.

Mainly Tanveer would provide cover for the Sangh:-

He will mainly provide cover for Tanveer Sangh, who has not played so far this season due to a stress fracture of his back.

Kadir is the fourth foreign player on Thunder’s list along with Alex Hale, Riley Rossouw, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, whose team has been able to field three positions in an XI.

Afghanistan pacer Farooqui was the most recent signing after David Willey was Thunder’s platinum signing in the overseas players’ draft earlier this year.

Previous BBL experience playing for Perth Scorchers:-

Qadir, who has played 23 T20Is for Pakistan, has previous BBL experience playing for Perth Scorchers.

Three years ago he announced his ambition to play for Australia before pursuing his international career with Pakistan.

His record for the Scorchers was modest, taking six wickets in seven matches with an economy rate of 8.45. He was a reserve player for Pakistan in the recent T20 World Cup in Australia.

Sydney Thunder chief Andrew Gilchrist said: “Usman joins us with experience of representing Pakistan and playing in T20 leagues around the world.”

Played for Futures League of South Australia:-

“The important thing is he has firsthand knowledge of Australian conditions, having played for Western Australia and South Australia in the Futures League, so he knows what to expect.”

The Thunder began their BBL campaign against the Melbourne Stars in Canberra on the opening day of the tournament.

Qadir’s father Abdul, who passed away in 2019, was recently inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
