Council members auction on December 21:-

The IPL Governing Council members will hold a meeting with the franchises ahead of the auction day on December 21.

In this, the franchise will get some clarity on the availability of players. There will also be another set of meetings on December 22 with the broadcasters for the mock auction.

  • The auction will be conducted for 87 slots.
  • There are 30 slots left for overseas cricketers.
  • The total player purse left with the franchise is – 206.5 crores.
  • The franchises have already spent Rs 743.5 crore on players.
  • The entire IPL auction of 991 players has taken place.

For the first time, IPL will have two broadcasters. While Star Sports Network will telecast the IPL auction live, JioCinema will have IPL 2023 live streaming. Hence, there may be a change in the proceedings. The team owner and some support staff will reach Kochi on December 20-21.

Some clarity on players in the December 21 meeting:-

There is no clarity on the availability of England and Australian players. There will be some clarity on the players in the meeting on December 21.

The BCCI has sought clarification from Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). With Australia leading the way for a WTC final spot, the NOC could be an issue for the players.

Similarly, most Test players including skipper Ben Stokes will miss the playoff stage in IPL 2023 as England will play Tests against Ireland from June 1. The BCCI has sought clarification from both the boards, but is yet to receive a response.

The official told Sport, “We are aware of the scheduling. But as it stands, all the shortlisted players are available for the entire duration.

We are in touch with both Cricket Australia and England. We will have some clarity before the franchise meeting in Kochi before the auction.”
