After a tenure of just 3 years, Ganguly has been completely sidelined. At the same time, he was found alone, even his close friend and BCCI secretary Jay Shah gave a surprising consent in favor of Roger Binny. Now the elections to be held on October 18 are just a formality.
The New BCCI Office-Bearers:-
- President: Roger Binny (Karnataka)
- Secretary: Jai Shah (Gujarat)
- Vice President: Rajeev Shukla (UP)
- Treasurer: Ashish Shelar (Maharashtra)
- Joint Secretary: Devjit Saikia (Assam)
- IPL President: Arun Dhumal (HP)
Simultaneously, Rajiv Shukla said during this, “Roger Binny has filed his nomination for the post of President. While I have again nominated for the post of secretary, Jai Shah as secretary and Ashish Shelar as treasurer as well as Devajit Sekai as joint secretary.
He further added, “Arun Dhumal is the new governing council of IPL, and Abhishek Dalmiya is also a member of the council, Khairu Jamal Majumdar has also been nominated for the post of council member.”
The President’s chair slips from Sourav Ganguly’s hand:-
- Unlike his tenure as CAB President, Ganguly did not get credit for any of the achievements of BCCI during 2019-2022.
- BCCI successfully organized IPL 2022 during Kovid without any problem. But the credit for all this went to Jay Shah.
- Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal also get their credit for bringing in over Rs 48,000 crore to the BCCI exchequer through the IPL media rights deal.
- For Ganguly, the former Indian captain was instead embroiled in a public feud with one of the most famous Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli.
- Kohli called Ganguly a liar, while the former captain wanted to give him reasons for it.
- When Kohli did not post a post for Ganguly on his birthday, it was clear that there was no good rapport between the two former captains.
- Kohli wishes everyone a happy birthday on his Instagram account, including the obscure support staff, but not Ganguly.
- Sourav Ganguly also did not manage to garner any support after the BCCI sponsors backed the rivals.
- An example: Ganguly supports ClassPlus an ed-tech firm while Byju has been one of the biggest sponsors of the BCCI.
- Ganguly also supported Xiaomi when Vivo was the title sponsor of the IPL.
- Sourav Ganguly was also reported to have attended the selection meetings, which he should not have done.
- However, there is much more to it. He was close to the BJP when Ganguly took over from Anurag Thakur.
- He was tipped to pose as the face of the BJP in the West Bengal elections.
- But his refusal to criticize West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and not join the BJP did not work in his favour.
- Apart from Home Minister Amit Shah, he kept himself away from politics despite meeting top BJP leaders.
- His biggest achievement would be bringing in Rahul Dravid as head coach and VVS Laxman as NCA director.

Shelar is a big leader of the BJP in Maharashtra politics:-
The BCCI is more political than ever in the current times. The secretary is Amit Shah’s son. Incoming treasurer Ashish Shelar is a big leader of BJP in Maharashtra politics, Arun Dhumal is the younger brother of Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, President of IPL.
Incoming Apex Council member Rohan Jaitley is the son of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. So, without any political backing or backing the ideology of the BJP, Ganguly had no chance to remain in the BCCI.
