The Legacy of David Johnson: An Unforgettable Journey. He played two Tests for India in 1996, picking up three wickets.
Cricket fans worldwide are mourning the loss of former Indian fast bowler David Johnson, who passed away at the age of 52. His sudden departure leaves a void in the cricketing community, prompting reflections on his dynamic but brief career.
Johnson’s cricketing journey began with a series of stellar performances for Karnataka in the domestic circuit. His remarkable achievement of 10 for 152 against Kerala in the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy season caught national attention, setting the stage for his entry into the Indian team. What made this feat even more impressive was his ability to consistently bowl at high speeds, a trait that soon became his hallmark.

Johnson’s Test debut came in 1996 during the Delhi Test against Australia. With senior bowler Javagal Srinath injured, Johnson had the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside fellow Karnataka bowler Venkatesh Prasad. Over 39 games, he claimed 125 wickets with an impressive average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 47.4. His prowess was not limited to bowling; he also scored a century, highlighting his all-round capabilities. Each match he played for Karnataka added to his reputation as a dependable player.
Johnson also made his mark in List A cricket, securing 41 wickets in 33 games. His ability to deliver under pressure in limited-overs matches made him a valuable player in various domestic tournaments. This phase of his career demonstrated his versatility and determination to excel in different formats of the game.
David Johnson’s last appearance in competitive cricket was in the Karnataka Premier League in 2015. His participation in this league symbolized his enduring passion for the sport and his continuous contribution to cricket even years after his prime.
