CSA T20 League: Lance Klusener appointed head coach of Durban franchise, connection with Afghanistan and Zimbabwe team

Kolkata: IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants owner RPSG Group on Monday announced that they have appointed Lance Klusener as the head coach of the Durban franchise for the first season of the CSA T20 League. Klusener has been an all-rounder for South Africa, representing the country in 49 Tests and 171 ODIs from 1996 to 2004, scoring 1906 and 3576 runs in addition to taking 80 and 192 wickets respectively. He was known for his impressive batting and his fast-medium swing bowling.

“I look forward to meeting the team”

Lance Klusner said, “I am honored to join the RPSG family. This is a new challenge for me. It makes me very proud. I look forward to meeting the team.” Lance Klusener previously coached Afghanistan from September 2019 to December 2021. During his tenure, Afghanistan won one of three Tests, three of six ODIs and nine of 14 T20 Internationals. Currently he is working with Zimbabwe men’s team as their batting coach.

Lance Klusener worked in several leagues

In the T20 franchise circuit, Lance Klusener served as the head coach of the Rajshahi Kings and Khulna Titans in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Apart from this, he has also worked in many other leagues. Months after the Lucknow team was bought for Rs 7,090 crore in the IPL, RPSG Group was announced as the winning bidder for the Durban team. He previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons.
