Former New Zealand star all-rounder Scott Styris made a unique demand

New Delhi: Former New Zealand star all-rounder Scott Styris has demanded a complete ban on playing the switch hit shot. Styris’ reaction came after the recent statement of Indian team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin had insisted that when a batsman, male or female, goes to play a switch hit and if the ball hits the pads, then LBW should be given out. On the other hand, Scott Styris has demanded a complete ban on this shot.

According to current ICC rules, a batsman is not given out LBW if the ball has pitched outside the leg-stump, or even if the ball hits the pads in line. Scott Styris agreed with Ashwin, but he did not accept the suggestions given by the Indian spinner. Styris said there was nothing wrong with the LBW law.

Scott Styris said in an interview to Sports18, ‘I agree with half of Ashwin’s point

Scott Styris said in an interview to Sports18, ‘I agree with half of Ashwin’s point. I liked many of the things that Ashwin told. I completely disagree with all his suggestions. Actually believe that even though it is fun to watch Switch hits, it should be banned completely. There is a rule for the captain and bowlers as to where to place the fielders. How many fielders behind the point, how many fielders on the leg side and things like that.

Styris further said, ‘So I do not think that the batsman should be allowed to play the shot by changing his hands. I don’t think he should change the movement of his legs. You can reverse sweep or reverse hit if you want, but I don’t like it.

According to Scott Styris, ‘Kevin Pietersen turns into a complete left-handed batsman when it comes to change of hands

According to Scott Styris, ‘Kevin Pietersen turns into a complete left-handed batsman when it comes to change of hands. If you pull off a switch hit, but allow a reverse sweep or a reverse hit, I think the LBW law that Ashwin was talking about doesn’t have to worry. This will give a good competition between the bowler and the batsman.
