Glenn Maxwell is happy to have a bit of a World Cup semi-final if it means Australia claims their maiden T20 title.
The all-rounder entered the tournament as one of the form players. On the planet and was expecting to carry the nation’s title hopes on his shoulders throughout the tournament.
But he was at times be reducing to a role player. And a guest as Australia reached the semi-final against England with just one defect.
He has scored 18, 5, 6, and two not-outs in any of the last two matches without hitting the ball.
“I’m certainly not surprised by the lack of time in the middle because it’s been a really good shuffle and it means the top order is going really well if I’m not spending that much time there,” Maxwell said. “

“I’ve been in a really good headspace, so trust [I’m] never going to need again or hopefully need another 0 not out and just stay on the other end.”
Glenn Maxwell is hopeful that if he is needed in the semi-final against Pakistan He can find the form he was in during the IPL.
“I feel like I put in a lot of work in training and I’ve been here for two and a half months,” He said. “I know the atmosphere really well.
It doesn’t matter if I haven’t batted for a few days or what. I feel like I’m still in the headspace where I was during the IPL, where I was actually hitting the ball.
Maxwell has also had an unusual role with the ball in Australia’s bowling structure. With Adam Zampa concluding with only four specialist bowlers and only one specialist spinner for most of the time. Glenn Maxwell was expected to play a bigger role in spin-friendly conditions.
He proved to be capable of more work with a fine four-over spell against South Africa in Australia’s opening match but has bowled only four overs since then.
He is only expected to bowl specific overs in the powerplay for an excellent match-up for left-handed players. Whether it will continue against Pakistan. It remains to be seen whether their openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are right-handed. And Fakhar Zaman is the only left-hander in the top six.
Australia would like to squeeze an over out of their fifth bowler in the Powerplays as they have done all tournaments. But Maxwell believes the pacer will be a big component of the work given his success.
Maxwell said, ‘The way our fast bowlers bowled with the new ball is excellent. “They are still able to do some movement of these pitches. I think it’s been two and a half months of cricket on these pitches,
But they are still out there looking for something and getting the tactic there are wickets in front of us and that’s going to be important for us to move forward.
“I think whenever you can take wickets in that powerplay by using your best bowlers and using your right match-ups at the right time. It definitely puts the opposition on the back foot.”
Chasing four wins so far, playing the seventh batsman has been crucial for Australia. Glenn Maxwell believes that if Australia is asked to bat first in the semi-finals. They need to be bold and rely on their batting depth.
“I think for us it’s just a matter of playing with freedom,” Maxwell said. “To attest to the fact that we have a really strong top order.
“We’re playing more batsmen. We’ve got a lot of good batting there. To know we’ve hardly used our five, six, and seven throughout the tournament probably shows how good our top few are.

Mitchell Marsh has been on fire the past few games. Finch and Warner, published, are peaking at just the right time. So we’re in a really good position, I think.
“I’ve also seen teams go the other way and try to grab wickets to determine where they can go to the backend and give themselves the opportunity to play freely in the backend.
But I think it’s probably playing with freedom. In the beginning and really trying to make. The most of the powerplay and get the opposition on the back foot.”
