New Delhi, Online Desk. IPL 2022, GT vs KKR: Russell innings didn’t work, Gujarat beat Kolkata by 8 runs in a thrilling match. In the 35th match of the Indian Premier League, Gujarat defeated Kolkata by 8 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Gujarat had set a target of 157 runs in front of Kolkata on the basis of Hardik Pandya’s 67 and Miller’s 27, but Kolkata’s team could only make 148 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted over. Andre Russell played the highest innings of 48 runs for Kolkata. With this win, Gujarat has taken the first place in the points table with 12 points.

Kolkata’s innings, Russell scored 48 runs

Sam Billings and Sunil Narine started the innings for Kolkata but Billings got out after scoring 4 runs in the 5th ball of the first over. He was caught by Mohammed Shami at the hands of Saha. Soon Sunil Narine was also out. He caught by Shami at the hands of Ferguson. He scored 5 runs in 5 balls. Nitish Rana got out after scoring 2 runs for the third wicket. He caught by Ferguson at the hands of Saha. KKR got the fourth blow in the form of Shreyas Iyer. He scored 12 runs, he caught by Yash Dayal at the hands of Saha. Rinku Singh and Iyer tried to handle the innings but KKR got the 5th blow in the form of Rinku. Yash Dayal got him caught by Saha. The sixth blow came in the form of Venkatesh, he scored 17 runs. He caught by Rashid Khan in the hands of Abhinav Manohar. Rashid Khan bowled Shivam Mavi for the 7th wicket, he scored 2 runs. Kolkata got the 8th blow in the form of Russell. He dismissed for 48 runs by Joseph.

Gujarat’s batting, Hardik’s half-century

Batting first after winning the toss, Wriddiman Saha and Shubman Gill started the innings for Gujarat. But the team got the first blow in the second over itself. Shubman Gill, scoring just 7 runs, caught behind the wicket by Tim Southee to Sam Billings. Captain Hardik and Saha added 47 runs in the powerplay. Umesh Yadav got the second wicket for the team by getting Saha catch for 25 runs at the hands of Venkatesh Iyer.

Playing the captaincy innings, Hardik completed his third half-century of the season with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes in 36 balls. David Miller caught by Shivam Mavi at the hands of Umesh Yadav for 27 runs. Gujarat got the fourth blow in the form of Hardik Pandya, he scored 67 runs. He caught by Tim Southee in the hands of Rinku Singh. As the 5th wicket, Rashid Khan dismissed without a run. He caught by Saudi Umesh Yadav. Gujarat lost 4 wickets in the last over of Andre Russell.
