Harry Brook has also become a part of this unwanted club

Earlier in 2008 against South Africa, Monty Panesar returned to the pavilion after being run out without playing any ball. Then the shameful record of Diamond Duck was registered in the name of Panesar. Now Harry Brook has also become a part of this unwanted club. Explain that in Diamond Duck the player can get out only in two ways. Either he is run out without facing the ball or he is facing the ball but it is wide and he is out stumped.

This incident is of the 22nd over of England’s second innings. Root played Southee’s first ball in the direction of the gully and ran to take the run. In the third slip, Mustaid Bracewell caught the ball running and threw it to the wicketkeeper Blundell. Blundell scattered the bails without delay and by then Brook was well away from the crease. This is how Brooke became the victim of Diamond Duck. England’s score was 80/5 when he was dismissed.

What is Diamond Duck?

When the batsman gets out without playing the ball, it is called Diamond Duck in the language of cricket. It is mostly seen that the batsman returns to the pavilion after being run out without facing the ball. Apart from this, if the batsman is facing the first ball, but it is wide and he is out stumped, then it is called a diamond duck.
